Drupal is a giant do-ocracy. If you have an idea for how to make Drupal better, just do it. Much of the Drupal project comes from people scratching their own itch, and there has been a whole lot of scratching going on.
There are essentially three approaches to your sites theme when using Drupal. One, you can use a pre built theme. There are several available that can be purchased or used without charge. Another method is you can build your theme from scratch. The third is to use a base theme that can be modified for your specific needs.

After weeks of research reviewing the most popular themes on D.O and many group discussions, I finally began the design and development of my first theme to be released to the Drupal community.

I've created my first Drupal theme, Techy for D6, and at this point I'm going to call it early Beta. Still, I thought now would be as good of time as any to release it to the general public. I've submitted it to D.O (Drupal.org) and applied for a CVS account, so here's hoping to see it live in the next few weeks. I really struggled with trying to get it better and better and better, but remembered most of the themes on Drupal.org are horrible anyway. I decided getting feedback would probably be better than me continually trying to refine it.

Most non-customized Drupal themes come with basic gradients or stale background colors, and for good reason. The idea behind themes is to provide a somewhat generic design for the masses - providing a basic layout and canvas from which designers can improve.
Here are a list of Photoshop Brushes and Patterns that can help spice up your bland Drupal theme. If you’re not familiar with adding Brushes or Patterns to Photoshop, there are step-by-step instructions on the web or you can follow the instructions below:

In search for the perfect theme, I have been to the end and back. And here's what I learned: There is no such thing as the perfect theme. Your taste will change, your needs will fluctuate over time, and eventually you will want another theme. What's great about free themes is how easy it is to download, upload and activate. That's it. It's 3 steps. And they are free. My recommendation will be to start with a free theme, build out your site, and then buy a theme. You will be less likely to change out your theme when shelling out $300 a pop, and the process will help to identify what elements and features you want available in the theme. Well, let's get to it: 10 Free Drupal Themes on the Web (in no order)
**Funny fact: The reason why most Drupal themes begin with "A" is because Drupal.org defaults and display's themes by their Title, beginning with A.
