This week, the folks at LevelTen have been discussing our goals for the New Year. Most people will refer to that as a "resolution", but I prefer the term goal. Maybe its semantics, but the way I see it, as resolution implies failure (since statistically, most resolutions do fail), while a goal is something you consistently work to achieve.
I used to write in personal blogs off and on for seven years on someone else's network. I started business blogging in 2006 for LevelTen and their clients, but had been blogging on my own since 2001. One day I had a realization and decided to stop building other people’s content and focus building an online presence for myself, as well as LevelTen and their clients. Start it with a BANG! If your very first sentence can't capture the attention of your reader, all hope is lost. Besides having an engaging and thought provoking title, the first sentence is one of the most important areas of your post.
An article over at AdAge.com explains how the Federal Trade Commission has a proposed plan to start regulating viral marketing and blogs. As part of its review of its advertising guidelines, the FTC is proposing that word-of-mouth marketers and bloggers, as well as people on social-media sites such as Facebook, be held liable for any false statements they make about a product they're promoting, along with the product's marketer.
Recently, a paintball gun eccomerce site owner asked a question many business owners ask,

Well here it is my very first blog. My first thought, who came up with that name? My second thought, what in the world am I going to blog about? So I googled and googled in search of some ground breaking news to insure that my first blog would be inspiring. After a general consensus of internet searching, it occurred to me that I was not alone in my search for inspiration.
Can I just say that as the last person in a fully developed country that doesn't have cable OR high definition television, the internet is like a treasure trove for me? This morning I went on YouTube and caught the highlights of last nights South Carolina debates, checked out some blogs to get people's reactions and joined my candidate's support group on Facebook.
