There are essentially three approaches to your sites theme when using Drupal. One, you can use a pre built theme. There are several available that can be purchased or used without charge. Another method is you can build your theme from scratch. The third is to use a base theme that can be modified for your specific needs.

After weeks of research reviewing the most popular themes on D.O and many group discussions, I finally began the design and development of my first theme to be released to the Drupal community.

With just about anything new, there is a learning curve. Getting a new cellphone requires learning a new interface. Upgrading to a new operating system requires the same. Development tools also have learning curves, and Drupal is no exception. With Drupal though, it seems like people run smack into a learning wall instead of a learning curve. People new to Drupal tend to struggle for a long time to grasp the basics and many give up. Why is this?

It is a rare website these days that doesn’t have some sort of audio or video player in it. When creating a website with Drupal, there are now quite a few options on how to do this. Choosing which one to use is now quite difficult.

Most non-customized Drupal themes come with basic gradients or stale background colors, and for good reason. The idea behind themes is to provide a somewhat generic design for the masses - providing a basic layout and canvas from which designers can improve.

The client wanted to be able to create promotional pages and add content, which is easy enough in Drupal. However, the client then wanted to choose which blocks showed up on each page.

I'm originally a native of Texas, but have only lived here for seven years after living in the midwest and west coast for most of my life. I was a music major in college before switching to IT and have been working as a web developer for the last three years.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no usability expert, but I do know pretty quickly when a feature on a site is hard, tedious or confusing. In that same vein I’m a sucker for when things make my life easier! I can do the same amount of work in less time to get to doing the things I enjoy; which is why I love these five easy Drupal usability modules. Setup on all of them is a snap and when you’re done you’ll actually have more free time, and we all need more of that.
