New Strides for Accessibility Standards
Yesterday, Reuters reported that Target Corp is being sued by the National Federation of the Blind for the claim that Target's retail website is inaccessible to the blind. The claim notes that "Target.com violates federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination against the disabled." Target defended themselves saying "...we believe that our website is fully accessible and complies with all applicable laws." I really doubt Target even knows what Section 508 standards are. Section 508 standards were originally created for all federal agencies, but I can see this lawsuit influencing a law requiring Section 508 standards to be enforced on all commercial websites.
