Expanding the Conversation
We are in the beginning stages of an online promotional effort for Prayers for the Assassin, a new novel being published by Scribner in February. This online campaign is centered around a website we will be launching in late January called RepublicWorldNews.com. We believe this site will draw attention to some of the interesting questions raised in Prayers for the Assassin. Where could our current world events lead us? What if some of the events described in the book actually happened?
Google Personalized Search
Google personalized search is now available. Here is a quick overview from SearchEngineWatch. At first glance this seems like a useful functionality for those who search a lot. Google is embracing the 'tagging' concept for future searches and also has some enhanced bookmark features. They are embracing features provided by other social networking sites; del.icio.us, shadows, etc.
C-level Executives Internet Usage
I have recently been involved in client meetings and discussions in regards to the value of search for a b-to-b client. The client's target market is upper management, decision makers, C-level if at all possible.
In order to support our argument that search marketing should be a component of the client's overall marketing plans, we went looking for some stats on C-level executives Internet and search usage.

Carnival of Local Search
Today you get my own version of the blog carnival...a bunch of links...but no blogs
"Classifieds Still King but Paid Search Looms Locally" reviews a couple of reports on the size of local online advertising.
"Yahoo! Local Expands With City Pages and More User Reviews" Danny likes it.
Which Marketing Director Are You?
As the marketing director at a large company, you are very, very busy. You have a full calendar of deadlines.
You worked long and hard at the end of last year to develop this calendar. Your ad agency worked side by side with you to make sure your new product roll outs, your trade shows and your seasonal selling efforts were all mapped out with all the advertising, marketing and pr activities coordinated.
Local Directories and City Portals
Just read a very good article regarding Rebirth of the City Portal by Justin Sanger. This is a good history lesson that points out the fact that there were many Internet startups in the booming '90s that recognized the value of local search.
As Justin points out, the basic need and concept for local information, local search or community portals, whatever you want call them, has not changed for over a century.
Monday Morning CEO - Roger Staubach's Blog
The crew here at LevelTen are all proud to announce the launch of Roger Staubach's (yes...that Roger Staubach) blog, Monday Morning CEO.
Take a moment to check it out and keep watching. There should be some interesting stuff posted there in the next year.
Not only does Roger like to talk about the Cowboys and other NFL related news, but he and Troy Aikman have partnered in Hall of Fame Racing, a full blown NASCAR team effort for the upcoming 2006 season.
OK...this post isn't about search but it's cool...so there.

Local Internet Yellow Page Listings
Over the next group of posts I will talk about different subjects that are important for any small business to think about and put action plans in place for. All in regards to improving your opportunity to be found online by potential customers.
The first step for a small business owner is to determine if the business is listed in all the online yellow page sites and the Local Directories on Google, Yahoo and MSN. These listings are different than the search results you get when you do a traditional search on Google, etc.
