Avoiding The Dropsies: Your 2010 Marketing Intern

Did you have that moment in 2009? The one that made you want to whirl the television remote you were holding into the nearest solid object and watch it bust into a million pieces. For me, the picture above says it all: Matt Holliday's butterfinger special during the 2009 MLB playoffs was my defining "launch the remote" moment. I can say with great optimism that I expect my new relationship with LevelTen Interactive to entice different responses for everyone involved.

I am very excited to join the marketing team at LevelTen for 2010 after a very enjoyable Christmas and New Year's break. Dec. 23rd marked the end of the last project I was working with called Operation Christmas Child. I was responsible for media relations efforts in TX, LA, MO, IL, NE and pitched in on some other states as well. The project culminated with a huge processing event in Denver, CO. I helped coordinate a day where more than 1,300 community members came in to learn more about the project.

The experience really encouraged me to target social media, marketing and SEO as skills I want to pursue further. They are all so vital to the growth and success of businesses and non-profits, and I don't want to get left behind as the tactics to harness and utilize them develop. My initial experience with social media came when I was interning with the Fort Worth Cats baseball team, and witnessed the positive effect their team blog had on fan/player interaction.

I have a B.S. in Communications and minor in English from Texas Wesleyan University. I chose Communications because it was the closest thing they had to a journalism degree, and I just happened to have a passion for print journalism at the absolute worst time in history to do so. My luck I guess.....
I hope this internship with LevelTen leads me to establish and pursue more relevant and flexible skills in Marketing/PR/Communications. I also hope that LevelTen gets all they could hope for from an intern (although I'm not too worried since the aforementioned Matt Holliday screwed up and received a 7 year/$120 million contract this offseason).

When I'm not at LevelTen, you will find me road biking with my wife Maryl or walking Mizzie (our pup) at the dog park. Aside from work, I hope to nail my fantasy baseball draft this spring and see the Baylor Bears make a historic run through March Madness. Hope everyone has a blessed 2010.
